Why Getting Students to Think Like Scientists is Crucial

Why Getting Students to Think Like Scientists is Crucial

Students are naturally fascinated by inventions, especially those that make their lives more exciting and fun. Science and technology are taking the world by storm. Every scientist wants to leave a mark based on their inventions. Using these scientists as an example of why it is important to learn science may lead to a positive attitude towards science. It is important for teachers to observe what the students find fascinating and use it as an education tool to change their mind about science, especially if they have a negative perception.

To kickstart a student’s journey in science, a tuition centre might be the last place on your mind. However, at Indigo Science Tuition Centre, they introduce science concepts in a way that is exam-friendly and in an interesting manner. In this article, Eric Brunsell discusses some of the ways teachers can help students to think like scientists.

How to train students to think like scientists

“Halloween is a magical time of year. Ghosts and goblins wander the streets in search of candy and mischief. Halloween revelers celebrate the supernatural. School children color pictures of witches, gross each other out with mystery boxes containing brains made from noodles and boiled-egg-eyes, and play mad scientists creating bubbling beakers of goo. It is great fun…and my goal with this post…” read more here

It is crucial for teachers to appreciate that the science lessons should be simplified based on the age of the students. In a bid to teach students to think like scientists, it is vital for them to relate to the environment around them. Once the students have grasped the concept, it will be easier to introduce more complex theories. Teaching nature science is an excellent way of giving the students the opportunity to start thinking and analyzing aspects of science like scientists.

In this article, Josephine Lister discusses the future of science in education.

Why education needs to be streamlined with the economy’s demands

“The science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) industries are booming. In the U.S. the STEM industries account for more than half of the sustained economic expansion, while in the U.K., the tech industry grew 32 percent faster than any other industry. In a time when young people face an increasingly hostile and competitive job market, doesn’t it make sense to teach them the skills…” read more here

Over the past couple of years, science and technology have changed the global economy. There is a higher demand for scientists by companies looking for ways to outcompete one another. Some people have seen the potential of investing in technology. This has pushed the need for scientists up. Unfortunately, the demand is not meeting the supply. It has become critical for the curriculum to be tailored to suit the current demand in the economy.

In this article, Annie Padwick discusses the importance of including the input of scientists in the curriculum.

Why the input of scientists is critical in the science curriculum

“School science education is important for those who want to pursue a career in the sciences – and for those who don’t. Sadly, the first category seems to have been the main target for those designing science curricula. Their aim has been quite narrow: to lay a foundation for pupils so that they keep studying with the goal of becoming professional scientists.” read more here

Working scientists understand what works and what does not. It is important for the curriculum to be centered on the skill the students will find useful when they join the job market. It is crucial for the science curriculum to be altered and redesigned whenever necessary so that the students can see the significance of the lessons. It is also important to remember that science is as much for students interested in pursuing science as it is for those that are not interested in science.

It is important for students to feel there is a reason for them to study science. They need to attach a degree of importance to what they learn. This can be done through regular analysis of the curriculum. If at some point the educators feel the content is outdated or if there is a need for alterations, it is important to involve all the stakeholders to ensure the curriculum is updated. Science teachers also need regular retraining to ensure they have the necessary updates and skills to make sure the students get the best.

These common mistakes should be avoided to get maximum benefits out of Science tuition class

As schools get more competitive, parents and students are constantly on the lookout to gain an edge over others in terms of academics. For many, primary science tuition has become the go-to move to score better. In addition to this, it is advisable to avoid these three missteps to derive the maximum benefit from science tuition class:

1. Not having clear objectives

The key to getting the most value for money out of science tuition is to be cognizant of the goals in joining such a program. The marks that the student aims to obtain, the topics they want to become proficient in or strengthen, need to be well defined at the beginning itself.

2. Being too exam-centric

While it is great to score stellar grades, it is also imperative to gain a strong foundation in concepts, rather than just learn from an examination point of view, as this might prove detrimental to future growth. It would also leave the student unprepared to tackle tricky questions during the exams.

3. Not choosing the tuitions with the right teachers

The optimal tuition atmosphere must have faculty members that are experienced in teaching that age group, knowledgeable, patient and with good interpersonal skills. Anything else would be suboptimal and might lead to the student not reaching the required level of proficiency.

4. Irregularity

Just like with any task, not being regular in doing assignments and not keeping up to date with lessons can prove to be a cause for bad results in exams. This is true, especially with science tuitions.

Conclusion

It is common to see the above-mentioned mistakes being made. It is to be noted that a lack of conscientiousness in going through with science tuition can have a host of negative implications such as wasted money, low grades and most importantly wasted time and potential, making it a decision worthy of deep thought and insightful action.

Someone different and new like a supervillain, or someone well known and familiar like mom. Sometimes children take on real-world roles, other times they take on fantasy roles. Either way, it is play that involves breaking down the barriers of reality and results in serious and natural learning.

Why is drama good for children?

As Principal of a drama school, I’m asked this question a lot. And I could write a book on the many reasons why drama is so excellent – not just good ? for children. But for this blog post, I’ll focus on just one benefit; and that’s the improvement drama can make to a child’s oral communication.

At school, there’s an emphasis on children learning to read and write and rightly so, as these are fundamental skills. But where’s the interest in how well a child is communicating and how clearly and confidently they are speaking? If you consider how much we communicate orally, interacting with friends, family, colleagues and strangers, then it seems odd that more emphasis isn’t put on this in schools. Read more here.

That one benefit discussed above is that drama can help improve children’s communication skills. It will teach them how to speak clearly and loudly. It will also train them on having proper eye contact with the audience while speaking in front of people. These simple things are important and it will be good for children to learn them early as it will be useful for them in their future schooling and careers as well.

So in that respect, Chinese language gains tremendous importance. Thus becomes utterly important, necessary and at the same time productive to learn the Chinese language. It is an extremely smart move as well as all the leading job sectors are gradually opening up many areas relating to Chinese technology and communication. Thus, the question that comes next is the ideal time to learn Chinese because it is a well known fact that Chinese as a language is quite difficult and not very commonplace.

Learning Chinese requires skill, patience and proper guidelines. According to some the process of learning Chinese should be started before the age of twelve in a child. The reason behind this is that research has proven that children at their tender age, especially infants have a very productive mind and at this age their grasping power to adapt something new is so fierce that they can very easily learn something that is not very easy for adults. This power of grasping new things generally stays in a child before he/she starts adolescent which is the age of twelve. Thus, if parents want their child to learn Chinese, it is better to involve them and admit them in a proper place such as proper and suitable enrichment classes for kids/children then that will help them in getting themselves attached and adapted with this language easily. But according to some others, adulthood can also be an ideal time for learning Chinese because Chinese being an extremely difficult language to grasp, only an adult can understand it’s nuances and have the practical patience to learn it properly.

One such Mandarin centre is Chengzhu Mandarin Centre, which has language classes for both children and adults. Both classes have been well-received, and you should definitely check them out if you are serious about learning Chinese. You may view more here: http://www.chengzhu.edu.sg/mandarin-centre.

Both for a child and an adult, learning Chinese can be a difficult and time-consuming process. For a child, if admitted in a Chinese learning course at the age of five, he/she will be an expert by the age of eighteen. As for an adult, it depends upon his/her time and dedication upon the entire matter. It has to be taken in mind that it is extremely essential to know Chinese properly as well because Chinese is the most popular language in the internet and Chinese is the second most widely spoken language after English.
